Indications and dose

Directions for administration 

Chewable tablets should be taken prior to, during or right after a meal.

Calcium chloride or gluconate– administer slowly through the vein. Patient should be closely observed during injection. 

Medicinal forms

Chewable tablets (500 mg, 1000 mg, 1500 mg)

Solution for injection/infusion (10% w/v)

  • 1 vial of Calcium chloratum = 10 ml = 4.56 mmol of calcium
  • 1 vial of Calcium gluconicum = 10 ml = 2.10 mmol of calcium

Side-effects

Tingling, sense of “heat wave”

Local irritation to veins

Arrhythmias (when administered rapidly)

Hypercalcaemia (nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, abdominal pain, …)
