Cisatracurium (Nimbex)

Mechanism of action

Non-depolarising neuromuscular blocker (intermediate acting).

Blocks neuromuscular transmission by competitive inhibition of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the motor end-plate.

Pharmacokinetics

Onset of action: 3–5 min

Duration of action: 30–60 min

Half-life of elimination: 22–29 min

Metabolism: Hofmann elimination, non-specific plasma esterases

Elimination: Liver, kidneys

Administer intravenously

Solution for injection/Infusion (2 mg/ml)
1 vial = 2.5 ml (5 mg) / 5 ml (10 mg) / 10 ml (20 mg) / 25 ml (50 mg)

Side-effects

Hypotension

Bradycardia

Rash, flushing

Bronchospasm

Reversal

Rapid reversal of cisatracurium is achieved by anticholinesterase agents.
