Clopidogrel

Mechanism of action

Antiplatelet agent.

Irreversible P2Y12 receptor antagonists (ADP receptor inhibitor) and hence inhibiting platelet activation and aggregation.

Requires 2 steps of bioactivation.

Hypersensitivity (allergy, SJS, TEN, Erythema multidorme)

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Pharmacokinetics

Onset of action: 2-6 hours

Offset of action: 3-10 days

Metabolism: Hepatic first pass using carboxylesterase 1 to an inactive carboxylic acid metabolite

Excretion: Urine and Feces (approximately 50% each)
