Pancuronium (Pavulon)

Mechanism of action

Non-depolarising neuromuscular blocker (long acting).

Blocks neuromuscular transmission by competitive inhibition of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the motor end-plate. 

Indications and dose

Pharmacokinetics

Onset of action: 2–3 minutes

Duration of action: 45–60 minutes

Half-life of elimination: approx. 2 hours

Metabolism: Hepatic

Elimination: Kidneys

Directions for administration

For intravenous administration. 

Not recommended to be given by infusion.

Solution for injection (2 mg/ml)

1 vial = 2 ml (4 mg)

Side-effects

Moderate tachycardia and increased cardiac output

Reversal

Rapid reversal of pancuronium is achieved by anticholinesterase agents.
