Protamine

Mechanism of action

Reversal agent of heparin.

As a highly alkaline protein binds to strongly acidic heparin and forms stable salt, neutralising its anticoagulant effect.

Routes: Intravenous

Onset: 5 minutes

Half-life of elimination: 7 minutes

Directions for administration

For intravenous use do not exceed rate of 50 mg/10 minutes for hypotension + possible anticoagulant effect.

1 vial = 25 ml (250 mg)

1 vial = 5 ml (50 mg)
